Lead Researcher (PI): Bobbi Helgason
Institution: Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada
Total WGRF Funding: $32,500
Co-Funders: Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, University of Saskatchewan, City of Saskatoon, Leffers Brothers, Caldwell Fellowship in Sustainable Agriculture/Agroecology, Organic Agriculture Fund Private Endowment
Start Date: 2019
Project Length: 5 Years
Objectives:

To address biotic and abiotic stresses that present serious challenges to the prairie organic crop sector. It aims to calibrate soil carbon inputs to nitrogen and phosphorus turnover to maximize pest suppression. The new knowledge of balanced carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorous will support healthy agricultural soils using principles applicable both to organic and conventional production systems.
