Funding Priority Research Areas

Based on consultations with producers, industry and researchers in western Canada WGRF has identified three important research areas to support with the Endowment Fund. WGRF will consider funding for projects that align within these three priority areas:

Variety Development
Genetics, breeding methods, pre-breeding, breeding, pathology, quality, trialing.

Production
Cropping systems, fertility management, pest management, production management.

Post Production
Storage, storage pests, end use quality, new uses, economic/regulatory analysis.

Effective 2012, WGRF established relationships with provincial agriculture funding bodies in western Canada and other producer commodity groups to review proposals submitted to these organizations and co-fund projects in these priority areas. Agri-Food Research & Development Initiative (ARDI) in Manitoba

Agriculture Development Fund (ADF) in Saskatchewan

Agriculture Funding Consortium (AFC) in Alberta

The WGRF maximum allowable rate for overhead on direct costs of research is set at 15%.
